Hang 'Em High

After starring in the now-legendary trilogy of spaghetti Westerns for Italian director Sergio Leone, Clint Eastwood became a box-office star and imported the style of those classic shoot-'em-ups for this 1967 Western directed by Ted Post, with whom Eastwood had worked during their days on the television series Rawhide. The film marked a turning point for Eastwood, because even though he had three successful movies over seas, he had a hard time cracking the Hollywood scene. Not only was there a movie prejudice against television actors, there was also a feeling that an American actor making an Italian movie was sort of taking a step backwards.

This film was certainly a better than average Western but it had neither the magic nor the mystique of a Leone film. Despite Clint's unchanging face and broad-brimmed hat, the character he portrayed was very different from the Stranger; he had more dialogue, he had a romance of sorts, and although he was equally good with the gun, he always waited for the court's justice rather than dispensing his own, as he readily did in the Spaghetti Westerns. He also had less of a dry humor as that of the Stranger, but worst of all he had a name, Jed Cooper.

But Eastwood had judged the taste of the American public shrewdly, for they loved Eastwood's first US-made Western. Hang 'Em High covered its costs within weeks of opening in 1968 and he was on his way to his unfaltering rise to fame. This outstanding western begins as a band of vigilantes catch Jed Cooper (Eastwood) and, incorrectly believing him guilty of cattle rustling and murder, they hang him. The hanging was the best show in town. But they made two mistakes. They hung the wrong man and they didn't finish the job. He doesn't die. When he is saved from the noose by a passing lawman, he embarks on a renegade campaign of vengeance against the men who attempted to lynch him. He returns to his former profession of lawman to hunt down his lynchers and bring them to justice.

Neck Scarves

Clint wore the brown scarf for about three quarters of the film Hang 'em High, but in the final scenes he wore a black scarf. We have both colors available. These scarves are 43" long with a 6 1/2&quo; flare and are made from 100% Polyester. They are worn by wrapping the scarf around the neck and tied in back. These are the hard to find narrow scarves so there isn't a bunch of bulk hanging around your throat.

Youth size is also available for the same price in a 36" long and 4 1/2" flare. Available in poly only.

Gunbelt & Holster

Clint wore the same gunrig, boots and spurs in Hang 'Em High as he did in the Spaghetti Westerns. Unquestionably a classic in Hollywood western rigs is the one worn by Clint Eastwood in the Spaghetti Westerns and Hang 'Em High movie. This model is a modified Andy Anderson "Walk and Draw Rig". It has a distinctive decorative stitch on the belt and full cartridge loops. The holster is also steel lined. You have a choice of roughout or smooth leather, although roughout was used by Eastwood in the movies. Please specify when ordering.

Spurs

No gunfighter is complete without his spurs! These replica spurs look just like the ones Eastwood wore in the Spaghetti Westerns and Hang 'Em High movie. The set comes complete with a stainless steel spur and rowel and a D-ring leather strap. I've added brass jingle bobs because I like them. They can be easily removed if you prefer.
